MEASURING ACADEMIC GROWTH
///////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////
Overview

Every year, California students take several statewide tests. When combined with other measures such as grades, class work, and teacher observations, these tests give families and teachers a more complete picture of a student’s learning. You can use the results to identify where your child is doing well and where they might need more support.

Most testing occurs during the 11th-grade year. This includes required CAASPP exams, ELPAC (when applicable), and elective exams including LASLINKS, PSAT, SAT, ACT, AP or ASVAB. Please know that the ELPAC is administered to applicable students annually.

CAASPP: The California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress is a standardized, state-issued set of exams whose purpose is to assess academic growth.  More information can be found under the CAASPP link.

ELPAC: The English Language Proficiency Assessments of California is a standardized exam for students whose primary language may not be English.  The exam is given annually to applicable students to monitor their progress and growth. Newly enrolled students to Corona High are also required to take the exam within 30 days of entering our school.

LASLINKS: Is a Language proficiency exam taken by students seeking to earn a seal of biliteracy.

PSAT (including NMSQT): Is an exam intended to help students better understand what is on the SAT exam. During a student's 11th grade year, they are eligible to take the NMSQT (national merit scholarship qualifier test) along with the PSAT. The NMSQT is a great way to get aligned with scholarship organizations.

SAT: The SAT is intended to assess a student's readiness in reading, writing, language, and math skills.  The SAT is available for 11th and 12th-grade students to take. The Corona High School is NOT an SAT testing site, however, we can assist with testing should a student want to take the test.

AP (Advanced Placement):  The AP suite of exams is available for students to take to demonstrate proficiency in a college-level course.  AP exams are commonly end-of-course exams that colleges/universities could give credit for if a student passes. Students can also elect to challenge an exam or course if they would like, for additional information, please contact Corona High Administration.

ASVAB (Career Exploration Program):  The ASVAB career diagnostic exam helps students explore potential career opportunities based on their interests.  The purpose of the ASVAB CEP exam is to help students and families find the right post-secondary program for them. The Corona High School does not regularly provide the ASVAB exam, however, interested students can inquire in the career center for additional information.
